  • Sukiyaki

    Sukiyaki

Sukiyaki is completely different; the food is cooked in a sweet and salty soy sauce based broth and full of bold flavors straight from the pot. Besides the broth, the pot used to cook sukiyaki is also quite different from shabu shabu. Traditionally it is cooked in a cast iron pot while Shabu Shabu is cooked in a Japanese clay pot called donabe (土鍋), and the thinly sliced beef (but slightly thicker than shabu shabu meat) are seared first in the pot before adding the ingredients and broth. Despite having different flavor and cooking utensils, most Sukiyaki ingredients are similar to Shabu Shabu, such as leafy vegetables, tofu, shiitake mushrooms, and so on.

・The word Chirashi means "Scattered". so this is basically a big bowl of sushi rice mixed with fish, vegetables and eggs.

・SUKIYAKI is a popular Japanese Beef hot pot which is often cooked and served at the table, similar like Shabu-shabu.

・Kushikatsu is Deep-fried skewers, usually made with meat and vegetables.

About Host

host-taeko

taeko

I am a grand mother of 6 and have 3 children who are already grownup. Therefore I often cook a variety of meals for them when we all get together.

My youngest daughter and one of my nieces have lived in overseas for the last 10 years so I often visit them and make local friends there.

My main purpose to apply for this project is to welcome people from overseas with typical Japanese home cooking and warm atmosphere.

I studied English after becoming 50 so I speak English a little although most of the conversation will be done by my gestures:)

Currently I am living with my husband in a peaceful suburb surrounded by nature. It will be great if we could cook together and I am looking forward to meeting people from all over the world.
