Curry and rice. Curry rice was originally an Indian dish, but was introduced to Japan during the Meiji era. From that point on, it has changed to Japanese original cuisine, and is now a national food along with ramen. This time, I make Japanese curry with a big "Kamado". The ingredients are as simple as onions, carrots and meat. You will receive curry roux and recipes for souvenirs. Please try it even after you go home!

    Ramen is a noodle soup dish and perhaps one of the most popular Japanese dishes. There are many flavours of ramen, such as Shoyu (soy sauce) ramen, Miso ramen, Tonkotsu (pork bone) ramen and so on. Common toppings are Chashu (braised pork), Negi (green onion) and Nori (dried seaweed).

    Rice

    Rice is a staple food in Japan. In all most every family, there is a rice cooker. There is variety of Japanese rice brands such as Koshihikari and Hitomebore.

Cooking Class Information

In this cooking class, we make curry together. Cut onions, carrots and meat, fry in a big "Kamado", add water and stew. When ingredients become soft, add curry roux and stew again. Let's cook rice at another "Kamado". Delicious curry is ready!


About Host



Hello, we are Mai, Megumi and Mayumi. Together we provide a Japanese cooking class with a traditional brick oven, using fire wood, we teach you how to cook rice, the old fashioned Japanese way. With the rice and other ingredients, we also show you how to make the TeriyakiChicken-Teisyoku. Let's cook together in a farmhouse in the ldyllic countryside of Kyoto.
