    Tempura

Tempura (天ぷら) is a classical Portuguese dish brought to and popularized by Japan, consisting of seafood or vegetables that have been battered and deep fried. Tempura is a typical home-style cooking in Japan. It is often referred to as a representative dish to Japan. Although there are various theories, it is said that Tokugawa Ieyasu, the general of the Edo period, liked tempura so much that he allegedly died from eating too much.

  • Miso Soup

    Miso Soup

Miso soup is a traditional Japanese soup. It's base is "dashi" (Japanese fish stock) and Miso paste. Common added ingredients are Tofu, Green onion and deep‐fried tofu but differs by personal preference. The type of miso is different from region. In western and Easter Japan white miso is mostly used.

Cooking Class Information

"Experience the flavors of local, seasonal, and traditional Japanese vegetables and ingredients through this class!

Japan has four seasons, with different delicious vegetables and fruits available in the spring, summer, autumn, and winter. Through this class, you’ll be able to cook and enjoy tasty, seasonal Japanese ingredients that can be hard for find anywhere else!

You’ll learn how to make traditional Japanese dishes of maki sushi, kakiage tempura, miso soup, and daifuku using seasonal ingredients.

Maki sushi is type of rolled Japanese sushi that contains various ingredients. You’ll be sure to impress your loved ones at home after mastering how to make maki sushi in this class.

Since miso soup is a staple in Japanese cuisine, it's a good dish to learn how to cook while you're in Japan. Along with miso paste, it typically consists of a Japanese soup stock called ""dashi"", tofu, negi, and wakame seaweed. Miso soup is one of two basic traditional soups in Japanese cooking.

Tempura typically consists of various vegetables and seafood battered and deep-fried to a crispy, golden perfection. Kakiage tempura is a type of tempura in which the ingredients are more finely chopped, similar to fritters. In my class, the tempura ingredients are simple, and change depending on what is in season. I'll teach you tips on how to cook good and crispy tempura.

Daifuku is a type of traditional Japanese dessert consisting of rice mochi with a sweet filling. We’ll be using seasonal fruits to stuff the daifuku in my class.

Enjoy the tastes of local and seasonal Japanese vegetables and fruits in my class! The ingredients can be adjusted for vegans and vegetarians."
