    Onigiri is a Japanese comfort food made from steamed rice formed into the typical triangular, ball, or cylinder shapes and usually wrapped with nori(dried seaweed). Stuffed with a a variety of fillings and flavors, these rice balls make an ideal quick snack and are a fun alternative to sandwitches for lunch.

    Rice is a staple food in Japan. In all most every family, there is a rice cooker. There is variety of Japanese rice brands such as Koshihikari and Hitomebore.

    Miso Soup

    Miso soup is a traditional Japanese soup. It's base is "dashi" (Japanese fish stock) and Miso paste. Common added ingredients are Tofu, Green onion and deep‐fried tofu but differs by personal preference. The type of miso is different from region. In western and Easter Japan white miso is mostly used.

    Tsukemono

    Japanese preserved vegetables, usually pickled in a salt, brine or a bed of rice bran. They are often served to satisfy the balance with other dishes in sensory, authentic and nutritious consideration. Tsukemono are raw vegetables and think of them as a type of salad with the added benefits of lactic-acid fermentation.

Cooking Class Information

In this cooking class, we can cook one of a very Japanese tradtional meals which is simple but nutritional. It is nice remid of old Japanese Mom's tasts.

For the Miso soup, you can try my handmade miso. I use only organic ingredients.

For the Onigiri, you can cook rice without electric rice cooker. I can tell you how to cook rice with gas.
And also you can enjoy various flavors of rice balls just by changing the contents.

For the Tsukemono, you will know it's very simple way to be.

For the Tamagoyaki, you can aim to be square shape.

Let's meet at Onjuku Station which is just 90 mins away from Tokyo Station by exprss train. I'll pick you up at the station by car. It'll take 3 mins from station to my house.

You can choose drink from either green tea, water or Japanese Sake. The sake made from Onjuku. I will explain you about what we are going to make according to my recipe. I will give you my recipe as a gift!

Making Tamagoyaki , Tsukemono and Miso soup

3. Making Tamagoyaki , Tsukemono and Miso soup

You need a bit technique to make Tamagoyaki ( fried eeg) so I will teach you how you can make Tamagoyaki beautiful! I can also teach you how to make Tsukemono, and Miso soup too.

I’m Ayumi, mom of 3 kids, and work as a
Japanese style B&B owner with my husband in Onjuku which is placed in 90 minutes from Tokyo station by express train.
I cook every single meals for my family, my friends, and sometimes foreign guests.
There are so many fresh and organic vegetables around here because of beautiful nature. There are also fresh seafood too. It’s just 3 minutes to go nice beach from my place.
All of my recipes, I try to use local food’s which are vegetables, fish, rice, and even Sake according to the seasons.
I like to be in contact with different cultures, so I'd like to talk with people from various countries. This is why I’m also a host of WWOOF Japan too.
