Wagashi 和菓子
『和』means Japanese, 『菓子』means sweets. Wagashi is Japanese traditional tea accompaniment. Japanese people enjoy having wagashi during tea ceremonies as a tea treat. Or everyday recess.
You will make wagashi fine enough to provide for your tea party.

Jonamagashi 上生菓子
Jonamagashi is made from white and red bean paste. It’s a tea ceremony accompaniment.

Mizu Yokan 水羊羹
Mizu Yokan is tipical sweets for summer. It’s made from red beans and Agar. Very famous as a cold sweets

    Tea Ceremony

    The Japanese tea ceremony is a centuries-old tradition closely tied to Zen Buddhist principles, and a popular way to experience Japanese culture. There are several variations on this ritual. At its base, powdered green tea (matcha) is prepared and served in accordance with strict rules. Oftentimes, wagashi (Japanese sweets) is served alongside the bitter green tea.

Cooking Class Information

In this cooking class, we can make Japanese wagashi sweets together and tasting after cooking. You can take one back.

We will make 2 wagashi sweets from Anko(sweet bean paste).

1. Jounamagashi(上生菓子)-traditional tea confectionery
We’ll start by coloring Nerikiri Anko (white beans paste) and make dough. Then wrap and use wagashi tool (like rolling pin and clay stick)to shape it.

2. Mizu Yokan(水羊羹)-red bean jelly
We use kanten agar. Unlike gelatin kanten is vegetarian friendly.

3.We will also make Matcha tea with exclusive tea ceremony tool. Please enjoy tea utensils and tasting wagashi that you made.
