Japanese New Year Cooking Experience: Traditional Dishes in a Home Setting
Join me in creating and enjoying authentic Japanese New Year dishes that are traditionally served in family homes. During this 3-hour experience, we will focus on two key elements:
Osechi Ryori (New Year’s Feast): While a full Osechi set includes many dishes and requires extensive preparation, we will prepare a selection of key items together. The cooking process will involve demonstrations, with optional hands-on participation for those who wish to join.
Ozoni (New Year’s Soup): We will make a traditional soup featuring mochi rice cakes made from my family’s own farm-grown rice.
After cooking, we’ll beautifully arrange the dishes in a traditional jubako (stacked box) and sit down to enjoy the meal together. Even among Japanese families, fewer people prepare these traditional dishes at home nowadays, so this is a special opportunity to experience the authentic taste of Japanese New Year cuisine.
Enjoy the flavors of my family’s annual celebration, using fresh vegetables and rice from our farm. We look forward to sharing this cultural and culinary tradition with you!

Welcome to Fukuoka♪ Hello, this is Hiroko! I am a cooking teacher and sometimes teach home cooking on TV. I also love traveling, and when I go abroad, I love to eat the local cuisine of the land and communicate with them. The food in the restaurant is delicious, but the delicious seasonal local food is available at home. Fukuoka is a treasure trove of delicious seasonal ingredients such as vegetables and fish. Let's all make and eat local home-cooked meals using seasonal ingredients. I also like Japanese cookware and tableware. See that too if you're interested. If you want to go to the supermarket, let's go shopping together. If you want to enjoy the delicious home-cooked food that we always eat, come visit my kitchen! We will help you create wonderful memories of your trip. I'm looking forward to seeing you. We have seating for up to 10 people.
