・Nikujaga (Japanese Meat and Potato Stew)
Nikujaga is a classic Japanese comfort food that literally means “meat and potatoes.” It typically consists of thinly sliced beef (or sometimes pork), potatoes, onions, and carrots simmered in a broth made from soy sauce, sugar, sake, and mirin. It’s a staple of home cooking in Japan, often served as part of a traditional family meal.
・Miso soup
Miso soup is Japan’s go-to comfort soup! Made with miso paste and dashi broth, it’s light, flavorful, and full of umami. With ingredients like tofu and seaweed, it’s the perfect side dish to a bowl of rice.
・Sasami Ume Shiso Maki
"Sasami Ume Shiso Maki" is a Japanese dish made by rolling chicken tenderloin (sasami) with pickled plum paste (umeboshi) and shiso leaves (Japanese perilla). It’s then usually pan-fried or grilled. The combination of the tender chicken, tangy plum, and refreshing shiso creates a light and flavorful dish that’s both healthy and delicious.
In this cooking class, we will make traditional Japanese home-cooked dishes!
A key element of Japanese cuisine is dashi (broth) and fermentation.
We aim to prepare simple and easy recipes so that everyone can recreate them at home after returning to their countries.
The planned recipes include Nikujaga (meat and potato stew), Sasami Ume Shiso Maki (chicken tenderloin rolled with pickled plum and shiso), and Miso Soup.
If there’s any other Japanese home-cooked dish you’d like to make, please let us know in advance — we might be able to make it happen. Feel free to ask!
HATSUKI
Hello! I'm an office worker living in Tokyo. In Japanese, we say "OL" (Office Lady). I live alone in a small apartment in the city.
My hobbies are eating and cooking.
Although my apartment is small, I’d be happy if you could get a sense of what life is like for a single person living in Japan, while we enjoy making Japanese home-cooked meals together.
Thank you, and I hope you enjoy it!
English isn't my strong point, but if we can connect through our hearts, I'm happy!
