Cooking Class Menu

First, we will prepare dashi (Japanese soup stock) with kombu (kelp) and bonito flakes.
Using this dashi, you will learn how to cook a fluffy Japanese rolled omelet (Dashimaki Tamago).
We will also make rice balls (Onigiri) with bonito flakes.
After the cooking session, you will experience Japanese calligraphy (Shodo) using brush and ink.
Create your own unique artwork and take home a memorable piece of Japanese culture.

    Onigiri is a Japanese comfort food made from steamed rice formed into the typical triangular, ball, or cylinder shapes and usually wrapped with nori(dried seaweed). Stuffed with a a variety of fillings and flavors, these rice balls make an ideal quick snack and are a fun alternative to sandwitches for lunch.

    Rice is a staple food in Japan. In all most every family, there is a rice cooker. There is variety of Japanese rice brands such as Koshihikari and Hitomebore.

Primero, prepararemos dashi (caldo japonés) con alga kombu y hojuelas de bonito seco.
Con este caldo, aprenderás a cocinar un esponjoso omelet japonés enrollado (Dashimaki Tamago).
También haremos onigiri (bolas de arroz) con katsuobushi.
Después de la clase de cocina, disfrutarás de la experiencia de caligrafía japonesa (Shodo) usando pincel y tinta.
Podrás crear tu propia obra y llevarte un recuerdo cultural único de Japón.


About Host



We are a Japanese family living in Kyoto who love to share our culture through cooking and calligraphy.
In our kitchen, you can enjoy making dishes like handmade gyoza, spicy tantanmen, fluffy dashimaki tamago, and colorful chirashi sushi.
After cooking, we also offer a relaxing Japanese calligraphy (shodo) experience using brush and ink.

We speak a little English and Spanish, so please don’t worry — let’s have fun and learn together!
