Cooking Details
We will start by washing and cooking rice, using either a rice cooker or a pot on the stove.
For the miso soup, we’ll use dashi (Japanese soup stock) packs and add your favorite ingredients such as tofu, seaweed, or vegetables.
The karaage (Japanese fried chicken) will be marinated in soy sauce, sake, and other seasonings before frying to make it juicy and flavorful.
The tamagoyaki (Japanese rolled omelet) will be seasoned with dashi and gently cooked in a frying pan until soft and slightly sweet.
As for the seasonal side dish, please look forward to it — it will be a little surprise reflecting the flavors of the season!
We will cook together using simple ingredients and seasonings.
You’ll learn the small details that make Japanese meals.
If you like, we can also arrange the meal in a bento box.
After cooking, let’s enjoy the meal together with Japanese tea in a relaxed atmosphere.

★★★★★Minori is an excellent teacher and can speak English very well. By following her suggestions, we cooked miso soup, tamagoyaki, karaage (fried chicken), spinach with sesame, and boiled rice (that is, a typical Japanese dinner composed of five different small dishes). We think that the class is suitable for all levels, which is great because also simple amateurs can have fun and learn during it. In our opinion, the most technical part was cooking tamagoyaki, but it was not difficult following Minori's advice. We were so happy with our cooking class that we bought a little pan for tamagoyaki before coming back home. In terms of schedule, we met at a train station at 17:30, then went to a supermarket to do some shopping together (Minori was also very helpful in suggesting some food and items to buy and bring home, such as dashi packs and miso paste); then, the cooking class started at about 18:00, and we had our dinner at 19:15. Overall, it was a very informal, relaxing, and informative activity. If we had the chance to spend more days in Kyoto, perhaps we would have also taken another class. Minori, arigato gozaimasu!
