Tsugaru Home Cooking Experience in Aomori
Why not experience authentic, heartwarming Tsugaru home cooking in Aomori, in Japan’s Tohoku region?
In this class, you’ll have the opportunity to prepare traditional local dishes that have been cherished in Tsugaru households for generations.
We also plan to go shopping together at a nearby supermarket to gather the ingredients.
This is more than just a cooking experience; you’ll get a firsthand look at Japanese daily life, culture, and history, as well as the simple, rich flavors of rural Tohoku home cooking.
We also own an apple orchard and vegetable garden, so you can use freshly harvested vegetables and apples as ingredients. You’ll even have the chance to make apple pie using our homemade apples.
Getting Here If you're arriving by train, I'll be happy to pick you up at Kuroishi Station on the Kōnan Railway. If you're driving, you can come directly to my home. Free parking is available, so there's no need to worry about parking. I look forward to welcoming you!
We will visit a nearby local supermarket together to buy fresh ingredients. You can explore typical Japanese food items and learn about seasonal ingredients and local specialties. I will explain what we are buying and how each ingredient is used in our cooking.
First, we'll prepare our homemade apple pie and put it in the oven. While the pie is baking, we'll cook the other dishes together. By the time we finish cooking and sit down to eat, the apple pie will have cooled slightly and developed its perfect soft, moist texture. We'll enjoy it together as our homemade dessert after the meal.
Let's enjoy cooking together! We'll chop vegetables, mix ingredients, fry delicious dishes, and learn Japanese home cooking step by step. Everyone is welcome, and I'll be there to guide you throughout the experience.
After we've finished cooking, we'll sit down together and enjoy the delicious meal we've prepared. Sharing homemade food around the table is one of the best parts of the experience. Let's relax, chat, and enjoy a wonderful time together!
Here's an example of a menu from one of our cooking classes. On this day, we prepared a variety of homemade Tsugaru dishes, enjoyed freshly made miso soup, and finished the meal with our homemade apple pie. The menu changes with the seasons and the availability of fresh local ingredients, so every cooking experience is a little different.
After our meal, we enjoy a slice of our freshly baked homemade apple pie together.
