Karaage (Japanese fried chicken) Teishoku (set meal)
・Karaage is Japanese-style fried chicken made by marinating chicken in soy sauce, garlic, ginger, and other seasonings before coating it lightly with potato starch or flour and deep frying it until crispy. Unlike regular fried chicken, karaage is known for its juicy texture and flavorful seasoning inside the meat.
Side Dishes
・Miso Soup
・White Rice
・Cucumber Asazuke
A simple and refreshing Japanese quick pickle made by lightly pickling fresh cucumber with salt and seasonings. “Asazuke” means “lightly pickled,” so the vegetables keep their fresh crunch and natural flavor. It is a common homemade side dish that pairs perfectly with rice and fried foods.
In this class, we will cook authentic Japanese comfort food together from scratch. You will learn how Japanese families prepare karaage at home by seasoning and frying the chicken yourself. We will also make homemade cucumber asazuke, a refreshing Japanese quick pickle flavored with shiokonbu and mentsuyu that is commonly enjoyed in Japanese households.
Hi! I’m Miona. I love traveling, sports, and trying new food from different cultures. Living in the U.S. for over 3 years made me realize that many Japanese dishes overseas are very different from what we actually eat at home in Japan. That’s why I wanted to become a host. I want travelers to experience real Japanese home cooking. I live with my 75-year-old grandmother, who has spent more than 50 years cooking every meal by hand, even making sauces and dressings from scratch. Her cooking is warm, healthy, and full of love. We welcome guests into our home to share authentic food, family stories, and a true Japanese home atmosphere.
