Oden is a type of Japanese pot-au-feu, made by simmering various ingredients (called “Oden-dane”) such as daikon (Japanese radish), chikuwa (tube-shaped fish cake), and konjac (solidified jelly made of konjac potato) in a soup with soy sauce and other seasonings.
Oden is easy cooking!! Easy to prepare ingredients. The time when the oden stews it is important.
We normally eat it in winter to warm the body, but here in Shizuoka, it is eaten as a snack among kids.
Unfortunately, my house is very inconvenient area, 1h to 1h30m from Tokyo. But!!! My house is located near to fish market in Numazu, just 10 minutes on foot. After lesson, you can visit there!! If you are lucky, you will be able to see Mt.Fuji from the beach where is 5 minutes from my house.
I hope you enjoy the Shizuoka culture and Mt. Fuji.
Hi! My name is Sanae. Please call me “Saako” . I was a airline crew for 20 years, so I am interested in the culture of various countries. And I have worked as a Japanese teacher. Unfortunattely, my lovely house is far from Tokyo, from Numazu station, too. But it is very quiet sea side area in Numazu. Just a few minutes from beach on foot. You can see Mt. Fuji from there very beautifully!! I have been a house wife for 10years, I majored in home economics at university. Therefore I can teach you basic Japanese home dishes. If you are interested in, please let me know. I and my lovely cat, Shuri are waiting for you!!
