Have you ever heard the word Takopa? It doesn't mean 'Taco Party' but is the abbreviation of 'Takoyaki party'!
Takoyaki is one of the famous snacks not only in Osaka but also all over Japan. It is ball-shaped dumpling basically made with flour, eggs, Dashi-soup, chopped octopus, green onions, and Tenkasu(Tempra scraps). Takoyaki sauce tastes quite similar to Okonomiyaki. You can find Takoyaki shops in the shopping malls and Takoyaki stalls at the festivals, events or even shrines on new years days.
Many people have their own Takoyaki pan at home and enjoy making Takoyaki with various ingredients like sausages, cheese, mochi, Mentaiko (Fukuoka's specialty, which is a sack of salted cod roe marinated in spicy seasonings.). Although Tako means octopus, you can enjoy with or without Tako. It's very fun to cook and eat Takoyaki while chatting with friends.
For deserts, we'll make Anmitsu which has been loved by people since 1930's. It consists of Kanten agar jelly, Anko sweet bean paste and various fruits. If you put ice cream on it, it's called Cream Anmitstu. If you put Shiratama Dango as well, it becomes Cream Shiratama Anmitsu! I'll show you how to make Kanten, Shiratama Dango, Anko sweet bean paste and Kuromitsu which is a sweet sauce made of brown sugar and poured over Anmitsu.
Green tea will be served with Anmitsu, it is a perfect combination.
Why don't you have a 'Takopa' with me!
Hi, I'm Yoko! I have two kids and taught how to make Charactor Bento for people from oversea for over 4 years. I also work as an English teacher for kids as well as a crochet instructor.
I sometimes take students from oversea as a hostfamily since I've stayed at several host families in UK and Australia when I was young. It was very good experience in my life to feel the real life at local's home in the different countries.
Through my class, I would like you to enjoy not only learning homemade cooking but also seeing usual lifestyle at local's home in Japan.
