    Rice is a staple food in Japan. In all most every family, there is a rice cooker. There is variety of Japanese rice brands such as Koshihikari and Hitomebore.

  • Miso Soup

    Miso Soup

    Miso soup is a traditional Japanese soup. It's base is "dashi" (Japanese fish stock) and Miso paste. Common added ingredients are Tofu, Green onion and deep‐fried tofu but differs by personal preference. The type of miso is different from region. In western and Easter Japan white miso is mostly used.

Cooking Class Information

In this class, you will learn how to cook rice with Donabe(Earthenware pot). You will cook rice from the first step and make a round perfect rice balls like sushi.

This class may place in my kitchen You may play with my child and other kids in the class while waiting to be cooked or after eating.

I am also a salt coordinator. You will learn how to taste Japanese sea salt, onsen salt, and rock salt, and to match to ingredients.

Hello. My name is Eri. I am a mother of 7 years old daughter. I live with my husband and my daughter.

The place you are cooking is 2 room apartment which I rent for afterschool classroom. 2-3 min. walking from the nearest station.

I can teach you the new way of making rice balls called "hikari no omusubi". This technic was taught by sushi master, Zenichi Ishikawa. It is also called "Zen" omusubi. You may experience the "Zen" spirit through making this special omusubi.

I would like to teach you the Japanese spirits through this experience.

I had many roommates and friends all over the world in my life. Plus, my major and interest are in Anthropology.

I have a deep understandings with different cultures and religions.

I also expect for guests to respect us as different people.
