Pastel de Nata, Portuguese Custard Tart, also known in Asia as Egg Tart
This is the only cooking class in Portugal where you get to learn about pastry making inside a real award-winning Portuguese bakery - just 30 mins from Lisbon!
The class starts with an introduction to the history of Pastel de Nata as well as the family-run bakery where this workshop takes place.
After you've geared up, you'll go inside the kitchen of João's very own "pastelaria". This is where you will learn how to bake the irresistible Portuguese Custard Tarts (aka Pastel de Nata / Egg Tarts) everybody loves!
Unlike other Pastel de Nata classes in town, we will show you how to make puff pastry like the pros. Afterwards, we will make the custard from scratch and bake it all inside a professional oven. During this class we all work together as a team. Everyone will get to make at least 3 tarts by hand - spread the dough with a specific Pastel de Nata technique, fill in the custard, etc. The end result will be a collaborative effort. A delicious one, of course! ;)
In the end, we'll eat the warm tarts with a nice cup of coffee.
* ADULTS & CHILDREN welcome! NO previous cooking experience required! We also organize VERY FUN private experiences and delicious baking parties. We can also run workshops at DIFFERENT TIMINGS. Let us know what works for you!
João
I grew up in the hospitality business... quite literally!
As a baby, my crib used to be placed on top of the ice-cream counter at my Dad's restaurant. At 7, I was brewing coffee perched on top of a chair so that I could reach the espresso machine. At 11, the restaurant's customers would say that my sangria was pretty legendary, while my Dad would always get angry that I try a sip before serving it. At 13 I started baking Portuguese bread and pastries at my family's bakery.
Now, I have my own bakery so that I can share with the world the best Portuguese sweets. Did you know that our custard tarts have won multiple awards?! I think it's time to spread the love and share the recipe with you!
