Make the most of your time at home with my virtual cooking class from Kyoto!
Kyoto’s “Kyo Cuisine” is becoming famous all over the world for its beautiful appearance and taste.
Kyoto home-style cooking, passed down for generations, is called “Obanzai”. Obanzai is lightly seasoned, like Kyo Cuisine. The umami flavour comes from dried bonito flakes (katsuobushi), kelp (kombu), and shiitake mushroom.
Vegetables such as soybean, leafy greens, and root vegetables are shallow fried, deep fried or simmered in water, sometimes with some added starch. We also have unique “Kyo Yasai”, special Kyoto vegetables.
Obanzai preserves the naturally beautiful color of the vegetables.
Lately, obanzai has grown more popular as people seek out healthy food. Many restaurants now serve it as side-dishes and as daily specials.
Using online, you’ll connect live with local instructor in Kyoto,
I'll guide you step-by-step through making Kyoto-style Japanese dishes, “Obanzai”.
