Traditional Greek Cooking Class
1. Spanakopita or Tiropita (Cheesepie or spinach pie) with handmade phyllo: in Greece we love pitas (pies) and we make our own phyllo pastry. We can make a pita with vegetables, meat or cheese. The most common ones are spanakopita (with spinach, cheese and herbs) and tiropita (with cheese)
2. Tzatziki: it is the best known Greek dip made with yogurt, garlic, cucumber and dill
3. Greek Salad: my way to the Greek salad with tomatoes, cucumber, green peppers, onion, capers, rusk, olives and traditional Greek cheese
4. Moussaka: the best known Greek food. Layers of eggplant, meat sauce and a white sauce on top, baked in the oven
5. Dessert: loukoumades, the Greek donuts. Fried dough covered with honey
In this cooking class we will cook a very traditional and familiar to all Greeks cooking class.
We are going to start with the Moussaka by baking the eggplants and preparing the meat sauce and the white sauce. Then we are going to make the dough for our pie and while it rests we are going to make the stuffing for it. Then we are going to roll the phyllo and make it thin as a newspaper. Finally we are going to make the dough for our dessert and while we are waiting for everything to bake we are going to make the tzatziki and the Greek salad.
Hello! I am Marilena. I am born and raised in Athens and I am a passionate food lover and food blogger. I love cooking so much that I created my food blog, www.marislurp.com about five years ago! Recently I created CookinAthens, a cooking studio, with a perfect view on the Acropolis, designed to make you love Greek food even more and where you will not only taste authentic Greek foods but you will also learn how to cook them. At CookinAthens we have created a cozy environment where we cook traditional greek food the way our grandmothers used to do. But also, since we believe that cooking should be joyful and creative, sometimes we use the traditional recipes as a guide to come up with something new. Our small sized, hands on classes encourage our guests to cook themselves and to be able to reproduce the recipes when they get back home.
