Paula
Born to a Goan family who has lived in Goa, Mozambique and Portugal, I am a true reflection of the cultural diversity embedded in Portuguese cuisine. My love of food and cooking started from a young age, and food brought to my family together early and often. My mother, an artist in the kitchen, would constantly invite people into our homes (I remember when I was at school I would come home on a Saturday to find my mother had invited the entire teaching staff over for a meal). My family cooked internationally – one night we might eat traditional Portuguese homecooking while the next night my mother would make Goan samosas from scratch, teaching me the proper technique to make the dough and fold the samosas correctly. When my mother passed away a few years ago, my mother’s friends began turning to me, saying how much they missed my mother’s cooking. It was this that started me on my second career, in food. I began by cooking the family recipes, Goan and Portuguese, that her mother’s friends loved so much. After taking a course in cake design, I also started baking and found another passion in creating art from cakes. I opened my own cake studio and have been baking and doing catering for friends since then. I love playinf in the Kitchen, and welcome you into my home to share a Portuguese meal with international influence that will help you to truly understand Portuguese-Goan culture and local life.
