If you are a great lover of Japanese dishes, then this article brings to you another superb dish you would want to try out. It is an ancient Japanese dish known as the Sushi. It is a dish originating from Japan with vinegar rice as its key ingredient plus other vegetables, tropical fruits and seafood of different varieties. The Sushi is best served at a cold temperature and it can be served as an appetizer or as a main dish depending on your choice.

Sushi which literally means sour tasting is locally prepared with medium grain white rice. Vinegar was usually added to the rice to enhance its taste giving it a sour taste and also serve as a preservative for the dish. However, the vinegar sushi rice is now commonly used as the main ingredient in all the varieties of Sushi available.

The vinegar Sushi rice is prepared with some little quantity of salt and sugar which is then accompanied by another ingredient that gives its own variety.

There are quite a number of varieties of this Japanese dish called sushi and Tokyo is one of the cool places to enjoy the dish. They include the scattered Sushi, the cone Sushi, the rolled Sushi, the modern Sushi also known as the matured sushi, the hand-pressed sushi, the box Sushi, the American-style sushi, the western life Sushi and the list goes on and on.

Scattered Sushi

This variety is the most commonly eaten type of the Tokyo dish. This is because it is fast and easy to prepare.

The vinegar rice is served in a bowl and it is top with raw fish and vegetable garnished. Although there are other varieties of this same particular type, It could be served with the uncooked ingredient, some are served with cooked and uncooked ingredient mixed in the rice. Others top it with shrimp, octopus, mushroom etc.

This variety of the Sushi Japanese dish may comprise of green bean, carrot, wrapped in a triangular piece.

Rolled Sushi

It is presented in a cylindrical form with the aid of a bamboo mat known as Makisu. The Sushi is often wrapped in a soy paper, cucumber or shiso leaves and they are usually cut into six to eight tiny pieces. Under this type of Sushi, other kinds exist which include the thick large or fat roll, thin roll, hand roll etc.

Matured Sushi

This variety is a traditional form of fermented sushi. It can be seasoned with gutted fish stuffed with salt. They are usually served as a special dish of Shiga Prefecture. This is a modern variety of this Tokyo dish.

Hand pressed Sushi

The hand pressed Sushi usually served in a bit of wasabi. This type of Sushi is in an oval-shaped ball consisting of an oblong mound of sushi rice. The oval-shaped ball is achieved by pressing the rice between the palm of the hand. Hence its name, hand pressed Sushi.

 

The American Style Sushi

American Style Sushi

This variety is more popular in the United States. They include a variety of ingredients like beef or chicken, okra, spicy tuna, assorted vegetables like avocado and cucumber. Sometimes the roll is made with brown rice or black rice which look like a Japanese dish.
