Okayama is a prefecture in Honshu Island in the Western part of Japan. The city is very famous for its renown and iconic Garden and exterior. As you visit the city, you will find different museums in Okayama which reflect diverse regional and international cultures.  It takes about 75 minutes from Tokyo by airplane and 60 minutes from Osaka and Kyoto. If you visit the area, there are multiple things to do in Okayama such as the following.

Black Lacquer Castle

Okayama is a historical city, and it’s existence story rolls back till 8th century. In that era, Okayama castle’s construction began, and its completion was in 1597. The focus of the castle is a watchtower-style building. This building has a three-layer organization. The whole castle is famous as Crow Castle. The castle is a national treasure in Japan. When you visit the area, it is a place worth your time and money due to the history, architect and design.

Okayama Korakuen

While wondering about things to do in Okayama, you need to include one of the three most magnificent Japanese Gardens in your list. Korakuen Garden is a historical place that was built 300 years ago. The garden was built as a retreat for Okayama Domain’s Lord. If you want to have a view of the whole garden, the central structure Enyo-tei house is your place. You will find many artificial hills, ponds, and lawns. The Garden is worth your time and money in every season!

Hadaka Matsuri – Saidaiji Temple

As we visit a new city, we need to check their traditional festivals. One of the famous and unconventional festivals is Hadaka Matsuri. It is also known as naked festival’ held on the third Saturday in February at Saidaiji Temple. In this festival, nearly 9000 men will parade around the temple in Japanese wrestlers’ belts with cold water splashes on the body. At the peak of the festival, the men will get together and try to get a hold of Shingi, the talisman for good luck. The festival has a lot of importance in Japanese culture, and people from not only Japan but from different parts of the world gather around to view the festivities.
