All cooking classes by Satoko

My name is Satoko, a bilingual Japanese certified instructor of WPA(Wagashi Promotion Association) teaching Japanese sweets "Nerikiri" and "Mochi" making at my home to people from around the world. My Wagashi School name is "ankotopia", where you can learn not only making Japanese sweets, but also learn about Japanese culture and its role in our tradition. Offering a variety of one-day classes from beginners to advanced students. I try to make my recipes simple as possible, so that you can easily recreate it back home.

All my classes are private lesson if you book more than 3 people in one group.

I had lived overseas over 20 years, and through my career, I notice that many foreigners are interested in Japanese homemade food and love to meet Japanese people.
So, I decided to open a cooking school to invite those tourists to experience Japanese culture at home.

My cooking class is held in a small local town, where you can enjoy visiting lots of small shops, cafes, supermarkets, shrine, and even a historical public bath! before and after the lesson! You will encounter a more peaceful Japanese neighborhood as opposed to the busy city life!

Classes start either 11am or 14pm Mon-Sat. upon your request.

It was such a great experience! Satoko was a great instructor, explained about traditional mochi and the holidays it is costumed to make them. It was very interesting! Then we learned how to make daifuku, dango, warabi and savory mochi - all different types of mochi. Each one also symbolises something else, it's really fun to learn. Also she showed us how to make ice-cream mochi, but it takes practice to make so she showed us how to do it in theory. My wife is vegan and has celiac- and everything was just right for her (we always carry our GF soy sauce with us, so used it instead of the regular one). Everything was delicious. Satoko was fun to talk to, very welcoming and we had a really good time. In the end we had a special treat- because we are going back home soon and didn't get to do a tea ceremony, she performed a casual tea ceremony for us! It was lovely. We ate some of what we made, and took what's left in a package back to the hotel. She gave us a small gift at the end. Everything was thought out to the last detail! Another small anecdote- we came with our luggage as we just moved between hotels. Also my wife is pregnant - and Satoko immediately offered her husband to take us to the train station. Thank you Satoko, and your husband - for the hospitality and the great session. We will definitely make mochi at home, and recommend it to everyone we can.
