    Onigiri

    Onigiri is a Japanese comfort food made from steamed rice formed into the typical triangular, ball, or cylinder shapes and usually wrapped with nori(dried seaweed). Stuffed with a a variety of fillings and flavors, these rice balls make an ideal quick snack and are a fun alternative to sandwitches for lunch.

  • Karaage

    Karaage

    Japanese fried chicken, karaage is made by marinating bite-size pieces of chicken in sake, soy sauce, ginger and garlic before coating them generously with potato starch. When fried, the starch turns into an ultra crispy shell encasing a flavorful juicy bite of chicken. Absolutely great with beer.

    Rice is a staple food in Japan. In all most every family, there is a rice cooker. There is variety of Japanese rice brands such as Koshihikari and Hitomebore.

Cooking Class Information

In this class, you can learn how to cook various popular Japanese foods. After cooking, pack into a Wappa (Japanese traditional bento box) as the way you want, then you can create your own "BENTO"!
Onigiri is a rice ball. Place rice in one hand, then press and form into a shpe such as triangle, circle, or sand bag shape, whatever you want :)
Tamagoyaki is a Japanese soul food. We say that every home has different tastes. Roll up by using a rectangular frying pan. It is difficult but will be so exciting!!
We will pick you up at JR Ogoto Onsen Station at 10:35. The class included lunch finishes around 13:00, and will take you back to the station.

Hi, my name is Shiori. I love foreign countries and cultures. I have traveled many countires and have enjoyed the local foods in each country. Now I would love to teach you how to cook Japanese "BENTO" and share Japanese cultures with you. English, Chinese and Japanese languages are available.

The recipe comes from my sister who runs one of the most popular cafe in this area, and we are so proud of our food. We are even careful with health and will prepare additive-free seasonings for you.

The class will be held at her house, which takes only 20 minutes from Kyoto Station by JR Kosei Line and 2-3 minutes drive. There is good Onsen around here, so it will be great if you experience Onsen after our lunch. I am sure you will enjoy cooking "BENTO" and have a wonderful time here! We are looking forward to seeing you. Let's have fun together!
