-Three color dango
Dango are mochi in a form of a ball. We will be making mochi balls in a three colors to represent a spring dessert.
- Fruit Daifuku
Daifuku are mochi with a bean paste filling. We will be wrapping strawberries or other seasonal fruit in the mochi as well.
- Mochi Ice Cream (Demo Only)
I will be showing you how to wrap ice cream in mochi.
- Warabi Mochi (Demo Only + Tasting)
Warabi Mochi is a gelatin like wobbly mochi that is rolled in kinako (roasted soy bean powder)
- Isobe Mochi (Tasting)
This is a savory mochi that is grilled and basted with soy sauce then wrapped in Nori Sea weed
In this class you will be learning how to make mochi using glutinous rice flour, as well as taste the mochi that is made from pounded glutinous rice.
The difference in the texure of the two types of mochi is insteresting.
We will begin the class by explaing the traditions and festivals in Japan and the important roles that mochi plays in it.
Then we will start cooking by making the dango (mochi balls) and boiling it.
Next, we will go on to making the two kinds of fruit daifuku using the microwave oven and a demonstration on how to make mochi ice cream.
Then there will be demonstration on how to make warabi mochi on the stove.
Finally, you will be able to taste what you have made including the mochi that is made from pounded gludinous rice.
Hi, my name is Miyuki. I run a Japanese Sweets School at a private studion located in central Tokyo.
We hold one day classes in teaching mochi desserts and traditional sweets as well as certificate course in English.
Classes will be held by our certified instructors who will not only teach you how to make the sweets but also tell you the cultural background of mochi.
Classes are all hands on and you will get to taste your creations too.
