【Japanese Shokupan】
Japanese soft bread, known as “Shokupan,” is famous for its soft, fluffy texture and slightly sweet taste.
It is very different from many Western breads, with a light, airy crumb and a tender crust.
In this class, you will learn how to make this popular everyday bread enjoyed in Japan.
【Cultural Experience】
During fermentation, enjoy a fun and easy Japanese cultural activity.
Choose either Japanese calligraphy or making a simple, casual matcha — no formal tea ceremony, just for fun.
Bake fluffy Japanese bread and enjoy a unique local experience in Japan.
Hi, I’m Michiyo. I worked as a tour guide in Japan and overseas, and since 2008, I’ve been teaching cooking and bread-making.
Now, I welcome international guests into my home to experience authentic Japanese daily life through baking and culture.
In this class, you will make Japanese bread (Shokupan) — soft, fluffy, and slightly sweet.
During fermentation time, you can enjoy a simple Japanese cultural activity such as calligraphy or matcha.
After baking, relax and enjoy your freshly baked bread with tea or coffee in a cozy home setting.
The dough is prepared in advance, so even beginners can fully enjoy shaping and baking without stress.

★★★★★I cook. I bake. Serving others is part of my character. Michiyo sensei provided me with a warm, comfortable space where I felt confident. The instructions were clearly written and spoken. She didn’t make me feel rushed and there were no mistakes on my part but only opportunities to do better. I’d cook or bake with her again. Arigatou Michiyo.

Thank you so much for your lovely review, Angel!
I had a wonderful time baking with you. Your passion for baking and your skills were truly impressive, and I really enjoyed our conversations—especially about your dream of opening a New York-style bagel shop in Japan. It was so inspiring!
I hope you’ll try making Shokupan again, and I would love to bake together again someday. Thank you very much!
