What Makes Yoron Island, Kagoshima A Must Visit Destination?

To start with, Yoron Island is one of the most scenic islands in the southernmost part of Kagoshima. Yoron Island, also known as Yoronjima, is just 22 km south of Okinawa. The Yoron station is not merely a station; it is perhaps the most breathtaking stations in any part of the world. The view of the sea beyond makes you not leave the place ever. The presence of many beaches, and Yurigahama sandbars or Akasaki natural caves and coral reefs are amazing. Get transported to the past as you travel through the local villages that have not moved at the same pace as the rest of modern-day Japanese cities. This makes them so much endearing and worth your time. You can explore Ooganeku beach, and take a dip in the cool blue waters.

How To Get To Yoron Island?

By airplane, it takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes from Kagoshima Airport and 40 minutes from Okinawa airport. The island is also accessible by ship. That leaves Kagoshima port at 6 pm and reach the Yoron Island at 14:00. From Naha Port, board the ship at 7 am and reach Yoron Island by noon.

What To Do There?

As a gorgeous island, Yoron is best for those who seek for beautiful beaches. The Yurigahama beach is famous for its sandbars that you can see when the tide is low during the months of April to October.

If you like marine sports, head out to Ooganeku beach. It is famous for snorkeling and other marine sports.

Take a sneak peek into the daily life of locals at Yoron Island during the industrial era. They were trying best to retain their village life and keep their culture intact. The Yoron Folk Museum is set up for that purpose. The local businesses, breweries, and fishing equipment are all on display.

What To Eat?

Seafood is a specialty by itself. Misaki’s shaved ice is a hot favorite among the locals and tourists alike. At the tiny village, try out Yoron Kenpo with the locals. If you have time, book a cooking class session with locals who teach you their traditional lifestyle and eating habits.
