Komogawa odori in Kyoto

May gives you the last chance to witness some of the finest geisha performances. The show normally feature maiko and geiko from an area in Kyoto called Pontocho. Hakata Dontaku festival in Fakuoka

Hakata Dontaku is considered the largest festival of the golden week and it draws crowds from the other parts of the country as well as visitors from other countries. It has been in existence since the year 1179 and it is held every 3rd and fourth day of May. The celebration was originally for the Chinese and it is well known because of the fact that opponents wear some extravagant costumes. It was banned because of the extravagance but it returned as Hakata Dontaku festival. You don’t have to pay even a single cent to witness the magnificence of the festival.

Heijokyo tempyo sai festival in Nara

The festival has history that dates up to 1300 years ago and it remembers the days when Nara used to be the capital city of Japan. Shinkawa market festival in Yamaguchi 

This unique festival happens every 3rd day of May and it ends on 5th May. The entrance is free and the highlight of the festival is normally the fox wedding parade. You will get a chance to witness the traditional dressed groom and bride which brings about the history and culture of Japan. The faces of the bride and groom are painted like foxes and paraded throughout the town on rickshaw. This happens only in Japan, visit the country this may and get to witness.
