Tea Ceremony At Local Teacher's Home

  • Tea Ceremony

    Tea Ceremony

The Japanese tea ceremony is a centuries-old tradition closely tied to Zen Buddhist principles, and a popular way to experience Japanese culture. There are several variations on this ritual. At its base, powdered green tea (matcha) is prepared and served in accordance with strict rules. Oftentimes, wagashi (Japanese sweets) is served alongside the bitter green tea.

My brother and I enjoyed our tea ceremony with Aya so much! I was a little nervous going into it but Aya made me feel at ease, providing clear and friendly direction. She also shared a lot of interesting history with us as well as recommendations for food and shops in the area. I will be attending another class with Aya in the future when I return to Kyoto! Thank you!!
