★★★★★ (13)My name is Satomi. The name of the tea ceremony is Sousei. I run a tea ceremony class at a townhouse in Kyoto. Here you can experience the tea ceremony. I'll have a drink first. After that, you can make it yourself and drink it. You can also wear a kimono, so you can experience the tea ceremony wearing a kimono. However, there are only kimonos for women.

★★★★★Our experience with Satomi was incredible. It was truly lovely to get to experience the tea ceremony for all it is. Satomi’s space was small and intimate with extreme attention to detail. She really went over everything with such care and made sure we understood what each part of the tea ceremony meant and its significance. We highly recommend Satomi!

★★★★★Satomi was such a phenomenal host, I don't think there are enough superlatives I can use to compliment her. Some that come to mind are gracious, elegant, knowledgable, generous, and kind. Every aspect of our tea ceremony was prepared with tremendous care. More than I would have imagined. The ceremony room was in her home which is a traditional Kyoto style machiya. Beautifully appointed with tatami mats, scrolls on the wall, an adjacent rock garden, and gorgeous tea preparation equipment. Satomi even cut a fresh flower from her garden for display. Everything was just so beuatiful. My partner and I were honored she shared a kimono and yukata with us to wear during the ceremony. Although we were slightly embarassed because they didn't quite fit us being Americans on the larger side, Satomi was so patient helping us dress and never once made us feel self conscious about it. During the actual ceremony, I was surprised to learn how many steps there are and each one has a very specific purpose. It was a delight and joy to learn about this from Satomi. Once it was my turn to try and perform the ceremony, I was very concerned I would not remember any of the steps and embarass our host, but she was such a wonderful teacher I made it through with realtively few errors. On top of that, the matcha and wagashi provided (traditional Japanese sweets) were exceptionally delicious. Much like everything we ate and drank in Japan, but these were obviously made with love and care and made them that much better. Satomi and her family have my deepest gratitude and appreciation for the heartfelt and genuine way she shared her culture with us. I would highly recommend to anyone visiting Kyoto to book Satomi's tea ceremony if you can. Satomi gave us memories that we will carry forever and I'm so grateful for that. Thank you Satomi and Air Kitchen. p.s. To Air Kitchen....please make it so we can attach photos to reviews. Satomi's ceremony room is so beautiful my words don't do it justice.

★★★★★We had a fantastic time learning about the fine Japanese art of the tea ceremony with Satomi and her husband! The tea - which we were taught how to make and serve - was delicious and paired perfectly with the sweet treats her husband made. You can tell they are very passionate and are masters of their art. The whole experience was entirely authentic and homely und not at all commercial. It didn’t feel staged, in fact it was like being welcomed into their home. Would throughly recommend it to someone who doesn’t want the commercialised „Number 1 on Tripadvisor“ experience but prefers something that feels more „real“!
