・Onigiri (Japanese Rice Ball)
Onigiri is one of Japan's most popular homemade foods. You'll learn how to make and shape rice balls using freshly cooked rice.
・Miso Soup
Miso soup is a traditional part of a Japanese breakfast. We'll make it from scratch using dashi (Japanese fish and seaweed broth), tofu, and wakame seaweed. A vegetarian/vegan version is also available upon request.
・Tamagoyaki (Japanese Rolled Omelet)
Tamagoyaki is a soft and slightly sweet rolled omelet enjoyed in many Japanese homes. You'll learn the simple technique for making it beautifully. For vegan guests, it will be replaced with teriyaki tofu upon request.
In this class, you'll experience a traditional Japanese breakfast just like many families enjoy at home.
We'll start by meeting at the nearest station and walking to my home together. After a welcome drink and a short introduction to today's menu, we'll cook onigiri (rice balls), miso soup, and tamagoyaki (Japanese rolled omelet). For vegan guests, we'll use kombu dashi (seaweed broth), and tamagoyaki will be replaced with teriyaki tofu.
You'll shape your own onigiri, prepare dashi soup stock from scratch, and make your own tamagoyaki using a traditional rectangular pan. I'll also share simple cooking tips that you can easily recreate at home.
After cooking, we'll enjoy the meal together while chatting about Japanese food, culture, and everyday life.
Digital recipes will be emailed to you after the class, so you can recreate everything at home. Vegetarian options are available upon request.
The class finishes before lunchtime, leaving you plenty of time to continue exploring Osaka, Kyoto, or Nara.
Maki
Hi! I'm Maki from Osaka. I host Japanese home cooking classes in a quiet residential area of Osaka. Since 2024, I've hosted more than 30 cooking events, sharing simple recipes that are easy to recreate at home.
After traveling to more than 25 countries and living in Canada for five years, I learned that some of the best conversations happen around the table. That's why I started Gochiso Cooking—to bring people together through homemade Japanese food and warm conversation.
"Gochiso" means "a feast" in Japanese, but to me, it's the joy of sharing a meal with others. I hope you'll experience that feeling at my table.
