    Tea Ceremony

The Japanese tea ceremony is a centuries-old tradition closely tied to Zen Buddhist principles, and a popular way to experience Japanese culture. There are several variations on this ritual. At its base, powdered green tea (matcha) is prepared and served in accordance with strict rules. Oftentimes, wagashi (Japanese sweets) is served alongside the bitter green tea.

Cooking Class Information

Hello! ! My wife, Miho, has been practicing tea ceremony for over 15 years and has a license of a teacher (teacher: Sohsui), so she has a lot of experience and knowledge about tea ceremony. She is confident to answer any trivial questions! We look forward to many questions. Please experience with confidence because it is a full-fledged professional. You can also take photos and videos during the demonstration. You can experience the authentic tea ceremony.

The number of people in a session is set to a small number.
We think that the limit is up to about 5 to 6 people because we would like you to take a closer look at our tea ceremony demonstration, to make the experience rich, and we also want to enjoy the time with our valuable guests together, with like true family!

Since the tea ceremony in the sitting position ('Sei-za') hurts your feet and you are unable to concentrate on the whole experience, you'll have all the experience sitting in a chair! !
For the disabled, elderly guests can rest assured with a chair.
Let's relax and enjoy the tea ceremony together! !

We are married couple host, not business owner like a company. Also, the tea house is actually located in the house where we live, so we can provide at-home like space for you. We, my family will help you make your trip special. From time to time, our cute baby may come up!

The original official form of the tea ceremony is to pass through the tea garden and into the tea room. By walking through the tea garden, you will be invited from everyday life to the world of tea ceremony. In recent years, due to commercialization and simplification, it is often done in a private house without an authentic tea room or a garden, but here you will experience the tea ceremony in the authentic tea room through the original formal garden.

About Host

Hello everyone, we are Shingo & Miho! the host of tea ceremony and sake tasting in Kyoto.

I (Shingo) am interested in foreign cultures such as British culture and Western music, and has experienced various cultures and arts of various countries until now (Having study in the UK, having done world tour by bicycle, having had a long stay in India, etc.)
Through my experience, I realized again the splendor of Japanese culture, and after returning to Japan, I started learning "tea ceremony" immediately. Recently, I got the sake qualification "Sake Diploma".

My wife (Miho) has also studied various Japanese cultures such as Japanese dance, kimono dressing and shamisen. Among them, she was most interested in tea ceremony and trained from age of 20 years old for 15 years and got a qualification as a tea master. I would like to convey the wonderfulness and charm of this fun!

We, the couple are looking forward to meeting many people from various countries through the experience of Air Kitchen.
