Cooking Class Menu

・Takoyaki (Octopus Balls)
Takoyaki is one of Japan's most famous street foods, originating right here in Osaka! These are savory, ball-shaped snacks made of a wheat flour-based batter and filled with minced octopus (tako), tempura scraps (tenkasu), and pickled ginger.
Experience: You will use a special griddle with half-spherical molds to grill them. I will show you the fun technique of flipping the balls with a pick to make them perfectly round! We top them with savory brown sauce, mayonnaise, and dried seaweed.

・Yakisoba (Stir-fried Noodles)
Yakisoba is a classic Japanese dish made by stir-frying noodles with pork and fresh vegetables like cabbage and onions. It is seasoned with a special sweet and savory sauce.
Our Secret: In my home, we use a frying pan to cook it quickly, keeping the vegetables crunchy and the noodles flavorful. It’s a hearty dish that pairs perfectly with Takoyaki!

・Fruit Daifuku (Wagashi / Mochi Dessert)
This is a modern and very popular Japanese sweet. We wrap fresh seasonal fruits (such as strawberry, kiwi, or mandarin orange) and sweet red bean paste inside a soft, chewy mochi (rice cake) skin.
The Best Part: We will cut the Daifuku in half to reveal a beautiful, colorful "cross-section." It's a perfect photo opportunity and a refreshing way to end our meal!

・Japanese Drink (Kanpai!)
To complete your Osaka soul food feast, I provide one complimentary drink! You can choose from:

Japanese Beer: A crisp and refreshing match for savory sauces.

Chuhai: A popular Japanese fruit-flavored shochu cocktail.

Non-alcoholic options: Refreshing Japanese tea or soda.
Let’s enjoy our meal like locals with a "Kanpai!" (Cheers!)

  • Tempura

    Tempura

Tempura (天ぷら) is a classical Portuguese dish brought to and popularized by Japan, consisting of seafood or vegetables that have been battered and deep fried. Tempura is a typical home-style cooking in Japan. It is often referred to as a representative dish to Japan. Although there are various theories, it is said that Tokugawa Ieyasu, the general of the Edo period, liked tempura so much that he allegedly died from eating too much.

  • Takoyaki

    Takoyaki

Takoyaki is very cute, small battered balls containing octopus. When you visit Osaka, you can see Takoyaki shops and people wandering the streets while eating it.

  • Rice

    Rice

Rice is a staple food in Japan. In all most every family, there is a rice cooker. There is variety of Japanese rice brands such as Koshihikari and Hitomebore.

Cooking Class Information

In this cooking class, we will experience a real "Osaka Home Party" together! We will make two of Osaka's most famous soul foods and a trendy Japanese dessert in a friendly, homey atmosphere.

1. Fun Takoyaki Making (Octopus Balls)
We will start by making the savory batter and preparing the ingredients like octopus, ginger, and tempura scraps. The best part is the cooking! You will use a special Takoyaki griddle with round molds. You will learn the fun technique of "flipping" the balls with a pick to make them perfectly round and golden brown. It’s like a game, and everyone loves it! We’ll top them with savory sauce, creamy mayo, and dancing bonito flakes.

2. Authentic Yakisoba (Stir-fried Noodles)
Next, we will cook Yakisoba in a frying pan. We will stir-fry chewy noodles with pork and plenty of fresh vegetables. I will show you how to season them with a special savory sauce to get that authentic Japanese festival flavor. It’s a simple yet delicious dish that you can easily recreate for your friends back home using a standard frying pan!

3. Handmade Fruit Daifuku (Mochi Dessert)
For dessert, we will make "Fruit Daifuku," which is very popular in Japan right now. You will wrap fresh seasonal fruits (like strawberries or kiwi) and sweet red bean paste inside soft, stretchy mochi. The most exciting moment is cutting it in half—you will be amazed by the beautiful, colorful cross-section! It’s the perfect photo opportunity.

4. Enjoy with a Drink! (Kanpai!)
Finally, we will sit down and enjoy our handmade feast! This course includes one complimentary drink of your choice (Japanese beer, a fruit cocktail, or a non-alcoholic option). Let’s say "Kanpai!" (Cheers) and talk about local life in Osaka and Japanese culture!

※If you have any food allergies or dietary restrictions, please let us know at the time of booking. I am happy to adjust the ingredients for you!

Important: For food safety reasons, we no longer offer takeout containers for leftovers. We kindly ask that you enjoy your meal within the studio. Thank you for your cooperation!

Hello! My name is Maya. I was born in Canada and raised in Osaka, Japan. I also had the chance to work at Disney World in Florida.

My grandmother owned a shabu-shabu restaurant, so I grew up surrounded by good food. That’s where my love for cooking and eating delicious meals comes from. I love traveling, trying authentic local food, and sharing those experiences with others. I’d love to bring a taste of Japanese home cooking to you.

I believe cooking together with locals is one of the best ways to experience a culture. I have experience as an Airbnb host, and now I’m excited to welcome travelers to my home for a fun and friendly Japanese cooking class. Sometimes my mother or my sister also helps with the class, so you may get to cook with more of my family!

After the class, guests will enjoy the meal on their own rather than dining together.

My place is easy to access, close to the Tanimachi Line, Sakaisuji Line, and the JR Tozai Line.

I’m looking forward to meeting you!

It was really fun making takoyaki, yakisoba, and daifuku! It inspired us to look into getting our own takoyaki plates. We had enough leftover from the session for dinner, and it was delicious!
