    Takoyaki is very cute, small battered balls containing octopus. When you visit Osaka, you can see Takoyaki shops and people wandering the streets while eating it.

    Onigiri

    Onigiri is a Japanese comfort food made from steamed rice formed into the typical triangular, ball, or cylinder shapes and usually wrapped with nori(dried seaweed). Stuffed with a a variety of fillings and flavors, these rice balls make an ideal quick snack and are a fun alternative to sandwitches for lunch.

    Rice is a staple food in Japan. In all most every family, there is a rice cooker. There is variety of Japanese rice brands such as Koshihikari and Hitomebore.

    Miso Soup

    Miso soup is a traditional Japanese soup. It's base is "dashi" (Japanese fish stock) and Miso paste. Common added ingredients are Tofu, Green onion and deep‐fried tofu but differs by personal preference. The type of miso is different from region. In western and Easter Japan white miso is mostly used.

Cooking Class Information

●Takoyaki (Octopus ball) (Hands On)
A popular dish made with flour, eggs, soup stock, octopus, and vegetables.
(The octopus can be replaced with shrimp, squid, sausage, or fried tofu.)
(For gluten-free customers, we will replace wheat flour with rice flour.)

●Onigiri (rice ball)(Hands On)
A very popular snack that Japanese people want to eat all day long, traditionally made by hand-rolling delicious Japanese rice cooked in a traditional “hagama” (metal pot). The rice is filled with grilled salmon, tuna mayonnaise, pickled plums, etc., and then wrapped in grilled seaweed with delicious furikake (sprinkles) around the rice.

●Seasonal vegetable dishes Japan has four seasons, and you can enjoy a variety of vegetables depending on the season. Vegetables are boiled and eaten with sesame seeds, bonito flakes, and vinegar soy sauce.

●Miso soup
Made with vegetables and tofu in a broth made from kelp and dried bonito flakes, and flavored with miso, a traditional Japanese fermented food that is very good for you. Miso soup is so popular that Japanese people eat it every meal of the day.

I have been teaching Halal, Kosher, Vegetarian, Vegan, and Allergy Friendly Cooking classes to a wide variety of guests ranging in age from 0 to 99 years old. Classes are baby and wheelchair accessible.
