  • Tempura

    Tempura

Tempura (天ぷら) is a classical Portuguese dish brought to and popularized by Japan, consisting of seafood or vegetables that have been battered and deep fried. Tempura is a typical home-style cooking in Japan. It is often referred to as a representative dish to Japan. Although there are various theories, it is said that Tokugawa Ieyasu, the general of the Edo period, liked tempura so much that he allegedly died from eating too much.

  • Nigiri Sushi

    Nigiri Sushi

Sushi (寿司, 鮨) is a Japanese dish of specially prepared vinegared rice (鮨飯 sushi-meshi), usually with some sugar and salt, combined with a variety of ingredients (ネタ neta), such as seafood (most commonly and often raw), vegetables, and occasionally tropical fruits. Styles of sushi and its presentation vary widely, but the key ingredient is "sushi rice", also referred to as shari (しゃり), or sumeshi (酢飯).

  • Miso Soup

    Miso Soup

Miso soup is a traditional Japanese soup. It's base is "dashi" (Japanese fish stock) and Miso paste. Common added ingredients are Tofu, Green onion and deep‐fried tofu but differs by personal preference. The type of miso is different from region. In western and Easter Japan white miso is mostly used.

  • Tea Ceremony

    Tea Ceremony

The Japanese tea ceremony is a centuries-old tradition closely tied to Zen Buddhist principles, and a popular way to experience Japanese culture. There are several variations on this ritual. At its base, powdered green tea (matcha) is prepared and served in accordance with strict rules. Oftentimes, wagashi (Japanese sweets) is served alongside the bitter green tea.

This was the second cooking class which I had done with Keiko and it was, as the previous one, a wonderful experience. Keiko taught me how to prepare a number of dishes and I am looking forward to preparing them again in the future. If you have time during your stay in Osaka I highly recommend joining one of Keiko's classes! ありがとうございました!

Keiko was an absolutely incredible host and instructor!! she spoke wonderful English, was very friendly, patient, and organized - this was without a doubt the highlight of our Osaka trip!! it was such an interesting experience - we learned not only how to cook delicious, traditional Japanese food, but also the history and proper names for each ingredient. she picked us up from the subway station, invited us into her beautiful home and took so many pictures/videos of us during the process so we could remember the experience! she even printed a recipe list we could take home so we could cook the food ourselves later!! highly recommend for anyone interested in cooking!!

We had an amazing cooking class and tea ceremony with Keiko tonight! Keiko is super sweet, patient, knowledgeable, and considerate. She picked us up from the subway station and drove to her house. She taught us to make so many different kinds of dishes and sweets and she adapted our menu based on our dietary preferences. Highly recommended!

Keiko is so warm and hospitable, and is so passionate about cooking! Everything was very well set up and ran smoothly, and graciously offered to help us take pictures to remember the day. She was also very accommodating with a menu change request. We had such a great time learning to cook Japanese food and about Japanese culture and customs with Keiko, and she was very curious to learn about how things are where we are from too!
