  • Nigiri Sushi

    Nigiri Sushi

Sushi (寿司, 鮨) is a Japanese dish of specially prepared vinegared rice (鮨飯 sushi-meshi), usually with some sugar and salt, combined with a variety of ingredients (ネタ neta), such as seafood (most commonly and often raw), vegetables, and occasionally tropical fruits. Styles of sushi and its presentation vary widely, but the key ingredient is "sushi rice", also referred to as shari (しゃり), or sumeshi (酢飯).

  • Miso Soup

    Miso Soup

Miso soup is a traditional Japanese soup. It's base is "dashi" (Japanese fish stock) and Miso paste. Common added ingredients are Tofu, Green onion and deep‐fried tofu but differs by personal preference. The type of miso is different from region. In western and Easter Japan white miso is mostly used.

  • Green Tea

    Green Tea

The astringent constituent in Japanese tea is a type of polyphenol called catechin. Japan has done a great deal with the humble tea leaf. For example some benefits of the catechin in the tea leaf can lower cholesterol in some cases. Roasted over charcoal at a high temperature and grown under shade for at least 20 days are one of the examples. The most popular Japanese tea might be ryokucha. Depending on the timing of picking the leaves, the grade, the price can be noticeably different.

Thank you very much for taking my class and for your good review. Both of you were so good at cooking, especially slicing the tuna. Did you enjoy the view from the Yurikamome monorail train and teamlab★? Visit Japan again to see your relatives and enjoy many other interesting places!

We had a wonderful time learning how to make sushi with Masa! We are so thankful for her welcoming us to her beautiful home, explaining Japanese cuisine and culture to us and being the best sushi teacher. As one of us is vegan, she really put a lot of thought into her preparations and came up with so many vegan options as well! We highly appreciated her efforts and enjoyed our time a lot! Her sushi class is a must do when in Tokyo :) Best greetings from Austria, we‘ll always think of you when making sushi at home.

Thank you for visiting my house and for your wonderful review. I was so surprised when your friend asked me "Ikigai?" Yes, inviting foreign tourists to my house and introducing Japanese culture is one of my 'ikigai (purpose in my life). I believe it can also contribute to world peace a little. It was also fun that you were excited when I showed you my souvenir from your country, two salt containers.

Masa-san is an exceptionally wonderful host through and through. She came out to the station to meet me and also walked with me to the store I needed to go to afterwards. The sushi course itself was more basic than I expected, but that's because I already had some experience with the techniques. However, it was still a great time and I still learned some things during our time together. Thank you Masa-san for your hospitality and for the gift!

Thank you for your wonderful review and for sending me the amazing pictures of Diamond Fuji from the observatory I recommended to you. Only twice a year, we can see the sun setting on the top of Mt. Fuji from the Sunshine 60 observatory. You were so lucky and I was very glad for your lucky chance.

Thank you very much for your quick and nice review! You are an amazing family from the multi-ethnic nation near the equator. All of you sliced tuna very well even though you eat three meals out like many Singaporeans do. Please make sushi at home sometimes instead of eating at Sushiro(スシロー). To the smart boy, "Enjoy studying Japanese with Mariko-Sensei! まりこ先生といっしょに、楽しく、日本語を勉強してください。”

The sushi making workshop was one of our highlights of our trip to Japan. Masa is very friendly and welcoming. You get a private workshop with just your group of people at Masa’s place (with an amazing view over Tokyo). She contacted us to meet up at the station near her apartment which was very convenient. The workshop itself was also amazing. Her husband went to the market the same morning to get the freshest fish for the sushi. Besides the fish she also explained and showed us a lot of the rice making process to get delicious sushi rice! Making the sushi was a very fun experience, we got slice our own fish (sashimi) and made three different kinds sushi. Even the wasabi we ate, did we make ourselves. And of course the next thing was to sit down at the traditional Japanse table in her living room to eat the sushi. She also made a delicious miso soup. Whilst eating Masa showed and explained the customs around eating sushi. Throughout the entire 2,5 hours lasting workshop, she told snd explained many thing about the Japanese (sushi) history which was very interesting. Don’t hesitate to ask questions if you have them. During the workshop we talked about each other’s interests and Pokemon came up. She suggested to take Pokemon center near her apartment, which we went to of course. Masa thank you so much for this wonderful experience! We are very thankful for your hospitality and good time.

I decided to improve my knowledge about sushi and Tokyo to welcome my guests and explain to them. Thank you for encouraging me to introduce Japanese culture to tourists from different countries.

Masa-san was very kind and patient while teaching me how to prepare sushi. She came to pick me up at the station and guided me to her house. She taught me how to prepare 3 types of sushi. After preparing the sushi, we had a sushi party. Masa-san also prepared miso soup which was delicious. She even taught me some sushi eating etiquettes. We took photos and she gave me a sushi making set as a parting gift. It was a fun class where you learn a lot and in the end get to enjoy a lot of sushi!

Masa was an amazing teacher! Everything from the origins of the different sushi to the technique to make it. We had so much fun. And.. it was just me and my girlfriend. She didn’t book other people with us making it a more intimate experience. If you want to learn how to make sushi while also getting to know a local that is passionate about sushi and very knowledgeable, this course is for you!
