  • Nigiri Sushi

    Nigiri Sushi

Sushi (寿司, 鮨) is a Japanese dish of specially prepared vinegared rice (鮨飯 sushi-meshi), usually with some sugar and salt, combined with a variety of ingredients (ネタ neta), such as seafood (most commonly and often raw), vegetables, and occasionally tropical fruits. Styles of sushi and its presentation vary widely, but the key ingredient is "sushi rice", also referred to as shari (しゃり), or sumeshi (酢飯).

  • Miso Soup

    Miso Soup

Miso soup is a traditional Japanese soup. It's base is "dashi" (Japanese fish stock) and Miso paste. Common added ingredients are Tofu, Green onion and deep‐fried tofu but differs by personal preference. The type of miso is different from region. In western and Easter Japan white miso is mostly used.

  • Green Tea

    Green Tea

The astringent constituent in Japanese tea is a type of polyphenol called catechin. Japan has done a great deal with the humble tea leaf. For example some benefits of the catechin in the tea leaf can lower cholesterol in some cases. Roasted over charcoal at a high temperature and grown under shade for at least 20 days are one of the examples. The most popular Japanese tea might be ryokucha. Depending on the timing of picking the leaves, the grade, the price can be noticeably different.

Thank you for your wonderful review and for visiting so many places in Japan during such hot days. I was delighted to find the empty plate and soup bowls, which showed that you enjoyed them. It was fun pronouncing several Italian city names with a Japanese accent to let you know. Enjoy making sushi back in Milan ( called Mirano in Japan)!

We had such a fun time making sushi with Masa! She is so friendly and adorable and welcoming. Masa kindly met us at the subway station and took us to her apartment. She taught us about the history of sushi, how to make sushi rice, gave us some tips on cutting fish, and instructed us on several different ways to form sushi. Everything was hands on - we even got to grate our own wasabi! At the end, we had a lovely lunch together. We so enjoyed talking with her- we were smiling and laughing pretty much the whole time. She even made sure we got off on the correct path after the lesson. It was a highlight of our trip to Tokyo!

Thank you for your wonderful comment. It's been around 3 months since I had such an enjoyable time with you. You visited the Naruko Hot Spring resort, didn't you? I want to visit there this summer. Thank you for the chocolate, too. I placed the empty box on my bookshelf as a good memory with all of you.

This was honestly the best time we've had in Japan, and our trip was filled with amazing experiences. If you're considering booking this, do it. It is absolutely worthwhile. Not only are Masa and her husband incredible hosts, but she is also a warm and amazing teacher, and the vegan sushi we made tasted easily as good as restaurant food. So much of cooking is preparation, and Masa walks you through all of the steps, and has you involved all along the way so you won't forget. She also provides a recipe manual, ensuring you don't have issues replicating the process later on. Lastly, what isn't mentioned is the absolutely jaw-dropping amazing view from her home. Seriously, it's easily as good as the nearby observatories. Learning to make sushi in that serene environment is something you will never forget!

Thank you for visiting my house and for your wonderful review. I was so surprised when your friend asked me "Ikigai?" Yes, inviting foreign tourists to my house and introducing Japanese culture is one of my 'ikigai (purpose in my life). I believe it can also contribute to world peace a little. It was also fun that you were excited when I showed you my souvenir from your country, two salt containers.

Masa-san is an exceptionally wonderful host through and through. She came out to the station to meet me and also walked with me to the store I needed to go to afterwards. The sushi course itself was more basic than I expected, but that's because I already had some experience with the techniques. However, it was still a great time and I still learned some things during our time together. Thank you Masa-san for your hospitality and for the gift!

Thank you very much for your quick and nice review! You are an amazing family from the multi-ethnic nation near the equator. All of you sliced tuna very well even though you eat three meals out like many Singaporeans do. Please make sushi at home sometimes instead of eating at Sushiro(スシロー). To the smart boy, "Enjoy studying Japanese with Mariko-Sensei! まりこ先生といっしょに、楽しく、日本語を勉強してください。”

The sushi making workshop was one of our highlights of our trip to Japan. Masa is very friendly and welcoming. You get a private workshop with just your group of people at Masa’s place (with an amazing view over Tokyo). She contacted us to meet up at the station near her apartment which was very convenient. The workshop itself was also amazing. Her husband went to the market the same morning to get the freshest fish for the sushi. Besides the fish she also explained and showed us a lot of the rice making process to get delicious sushi rice! Making the sushi was a very fun experience, we got slice our own fish (sashimi) and made three different kinds sushi. Even the wasabi we ate, did we make ourselves. And of course the next thing was to sit down at the traditional Japanse table in her living room to eat the sushi. She also made a delicious miso soup. Whilst eating Masa showed and explained the customs around eating sushi. Throughout the entire 2,5 hours lasting workshop, she told snd explained many thing about the Japanese (sushi) history which was very interesting. Don’t hesitate to ask questions if you have them. During the workshop we talked about each other’s interests and Pokemon came up. She suggested to take Pokemon center near her apartment, which we went to of course. Masa thank you so much for this wonderful experience! We are very thankful for your hospitality and good time.
