Held in a renovated local kimono factory, this cooking class offers a one-of-a-kind atmosphere where tradition meets creativity. Each session accommodates up to 5 participants, ensuring personalized attention and a warm, friendly environment. During the approximately 2 hour class, Ryoko-chan will guide you through the steps of preparing Osaka’s beloved okonomiyaki, a savory pancake filled with your choice of pork or shrimp. You’ll learn tips and techniques to make this iconic dish truly authentic and delicious.

But it’s not just about cooking! Between steps, participants can enjoy a sake-tasting session, exploring the unique flavors of Japan’s traditional rice wine.(please inquire beforehand about this option) These classes also include a touch of Japanese language learning, making it a truly enriching cultural activity. This variability is reflected in the dish's name: "okonomi" literally means "to one's liking". You can eat it everywhere in Japan, but especially Okonomiyaki made Hiroshima style and Osaka style are the most famous.

Along the way, she shares tips for recreating the recipe at home and infuses the class with her passion for Japanese cuisine, creating an enjoyable and memorable culinary adventure.

Welcome to Our Cooking Class in Amino!

Hello! My name is Ryoko, and I’m excited to share my love of Japanese food and culture with you. With over 20 years of experience working in the restaurant industry and a passion for meeting people from around the world, I’ve created a unique cooking experience that combines delicious food, warm hospitality, and a taste of everyday Japanese life.

I studied English abroad and enjoy connecting with visitors from different countries. During our class, I’ll teach you how to prepare authentic Japanese dishes while introducing you to some basic Japanese phrases that may be helpful during your stay in Japan. I want this experience to feel fun, relaxed, and, most importantly, “Japanesey”—an authentic glimpse into Japanese culture and life.

Our cooking class takes place in an old kimono factory that has recently been renovated in the small town of Amino in Kyotango, Kyoto prefecture. Also the place is close to the sea where surfing is very popular . We will pick-up at Amino station by van or at your nearby accommodation if you like. Please let me know in advance, and we’ll do our best to accommodate you.
