  • Tempura

    Tempura

Tempura (天ぷら) is a classical Portuguese dish brought to and popularized by Japan, consisting of seafood or vegetables that have been battered and deep fried. Tempura is a typical home-style cooking in Japan. It is often referred to as a representative dish to Japan. Although there are various theories, it is said that Tokugawa Ieyasu, the general of the Edo period, liked tempura so much that he allegedly died from eating too much.

  • Udon

    Udon

Udon (うどん) is a type of thick wheat flour noodle. It is similar to Italian pasta, but much thicker. It has been eaten all over Japan as an easy-to-eat popular meal, and a substitute meal for rice dishes. Udon is often served hot as a noodle soup in its simplest form, as "kake udon", in a mildly flavoured broth called kakejiru, which is made of dashi, soy sauce, and mirin. The flavor of broth and topping vary from region to region.

  • Tea Ceremony

    Tea Ceremony

The Japanese tea ceremony is a centuries-old tradition closely tied to Zen Buddhist principles, and a popular way to experience Japanese culture. There are several variations on this ritual. At its base, powdered green tea (matcha) is prepared and served in accordance with strict rules. Oftentimes, wagashi (Japanese sweets) is served alongside the bitter green tea.

My husband, two boys (11 and 13), and I had a wonderful evening with Keiko who showed us how to make udon, tempura, and daifuku from scratch. And she showed us how to do the tea ceremony, all firsts for us. Not only was the process fun, but food delicious and my kids are excited about recreating the meal at home. I wholeheartedly recommend her class to anyone who loves Japanese cuisine and are seeking an authentic experience.

If you really like Japanese cuisine, Keiko will be the perfect teacher to introduce you to Udon, Tempura, Japanese desserts and Japanese cuisine. It has been very rewarding, and I have felt cooked like I was at home. In addition, Keiko is a good conversationalist with a good level of English, which will help you improve your knowledge of Japanese culture. I would repeat the experience again, the shame is that I am going back to Spain this week, but I will not hesitate to repeat it on my next trip to Osaka.

I don’t know where to start except that if you are in Osaka and want to find a cooking class - look no further! Keiko is very experienced, very good at giving instructions and document your experience with photos and videos if you are interested so you can focus on the cooking. Keiko is very nice, is interested in the guests travelling plans in Japan and a wonderful person to talk. She did the little extra to make our cooking class better and we couldn’t be more grateful to now know how to make udon. Thank you Keiko!

Really thankful for an authentic local Japanese home cooking experience. Sensei Keiko is an amicable professional culinary teacher who has been teaching for almost 2 decades! We are grateful for the opportunity to learn from her some really useful recipes that we can also make at home! Learnt the tricks to making delectable fresh homemade Udon , tempura and traditional Japanese sweets (Dango ) at home with the proper tools! It was so much fun and Sensei Keiko also treated us to a traditional tea ceremony and a welcome drink made from her very own marinated Japanese lime! Had such a lovely, fun exchange of cultures and food over a short afternoon! One of the most memorable times in Osaka! Highly recommended if you have a chance to learn from her and visit her personal kitchen!

We are a family of four from Singapore. We joined Keiko's class in Nov 2023. The class was fun. We made Udon, Tempura and Mochi. Keiko is a good teacher. She is friendly and communicates well in English. The class was a good addition to our week-long vacation. I would definitely recommend to those who have the interest to learn how to cook simple Japanese food as well as some Japanese culture as well.

Our day with Keiko was fantastic - it was our favourite part of our Japan trip so far! Keika is warm and kind. She picked us up from the train station in her BMW, drove us to her lovely home and she stepped us through the making of Udon noodles from scratch, dango (Japanese sweet) and tempura vegetables. She served our Udon noodle soup along with homemade lime juice and Japanese tea on a beautiful place setting. After we ate our home cooked meal she took us through an intimate tea ceremony. It was a beautiful experience. I would recommend this to anyone. Thank you so much Keiko!

Our cooking experience with Keiko was fantastic! She was a wonderful teacher and I would definitely book another class with her. We learned how to cook delicious food like udon, tempura and mochi. Keiko taught us how to make it on our own, and even showed us the ingredients so we can make it at home. She demonstrated the techniques and gave us gentle guidance. Keiko’s tea ceremony demonstration was superb and absolutely amazing. If you are looking for an authentic Japanese cooking experience, this class is for you!
