This cooking class starts with an introduction of Buddhist cuisine.
The class includes many tips for Japanese cooking. You can learn how to make Japanese soup stock, cook Japanese rice with a pot and make typical Buddhist cuisine dishes.
I am happy to arrange dishes If you have a specific request for your food and will teach you how to substitute with other ingredients. However, please note that there is a possibility of contamination and please refrain from taking the class if you have a severe allergy or you are strict believers.
I am a certified cooking instructor in a Japanese cooking school in English. I especially focus on teaching and cooking for people who have food restrictions so that everyone can enjoy food at the same table. One time, I had many restrictions in my diet such as wheat, milk, eggs, soy beans, and also experienced attending to foreign employees with allergy and religious background when I used to work for a foreign company in Japan. In the midst of all this, I could not forget the warm hospitality and cooking classes I had during my trips, and decided that I would like to return this gratitude to the foreigners visiting and living in Japan . Since then, while studying medicinal cooking, shojin ryori, macrobiotic, vegan, and vegetarian cooking, I have been cooking and supervising menus at organic cafes and food stores, selling gluten-free and vegan medicinal lunch and dinner boxes, and researching healthy cooking that can be enjoyed by everyone in various backgrounds.
I live in Oyamadai which is a peaceful and cozy area just 20 minutes from Shibuya by train. We Todoroki canyon and Kuhonbutu temples are walking distance and also you can enjoy shopping in Jiyugaoka.
I am happy to arrange food you would like to eat depending on your request and looking forward to sharing our food culture with you.

★★★★★Yuka is the most sweetest person alive. She puts a lot of effort into getting the best ingredients for the class. She is also very patient and very passionate. She kind enough to answer any questions I had, and made recommendations for substitutions at home. She is very knowledgeable in buddhist cuisine and was willing to share her rare/special ingredients for our class. I’m so happy I was able to take this class and highly recommend it for anyone looking for vegetarian/vegan cooking in Tokyo!

★★★★★I had a lovely time cooking with Yuka and would definitely recommend the experience to anyone eager to learn more about Japanese cuisine. I have been living in Japan for 2 years but I still find myself struggling in the supermarkets ailes when grocery shopping. All the products are so different from what I know and from what I am used to cook with... Yuka was very kind and patient and has taught me a lot about all the different japanese condiments, vegetables and sauces that I never dared to try before because I had no idea what they were! Thank you Yuka for this grocery experience! Using the ingredients we bought together, we then headed up to the kitchen for the shoujin ryouri class! This is the kind of cuisine that you rarely get a chance to experience, even living in Japan and let alone get the chance to cook it yourself! I am very grateful that this kind of class exists. I was amazed to discover how the ingredients we bought were brought to life in such lovely plates! At first, I was doubtful of the unagi imitation using sticky potatoes but it was delicious and really convincing!! I will definitely try it again at home. Thank you Yuka for sharing part of your culture and passion with me!
