A Sweet Journey into Japan: Master 3 Iconic Wagashi & Matcha

Discover the delicate art of "Wagashi" (traditional Japanese sweets). In this hands-on class, you’ll create three different treats that perfectly balance beauty and flavor!

- Fruit Daifuku: The Seasonal Delight
Experience the joy of making "Mochi" from scratch! You’ll wrap juicy seasonal fruit and sweet bean paste in a silky-smooth, pillowy rice cake. While Strawberry is the star, we use the freshest fruits of the season to create a burst of flavor in every bite.

- Dorayaki: The Favorite "Samurai Pancake"
Love pancakes? You’ll adore Dorayaki! We’ll cook golden, fluffy honey-infused pancakes and sandwich them with a generous layer of "Anko" (sweet red bean paste). It’s a classic Japanese comfort food that smells heavenly while cooking!

- Warabimochi: The Melt-in-your-mouth Treat
Warabimochi is famous for its unique, jelly-like texture. It’s cool, refreshing, and incredibly soft. We’ll coat these delicate bites in a nutty, golden dust of "Kinako" (roasted soybean flour)—a flavor you'll fall in love with!

- Matcha: Your Personal Tea Ceremony
The highlight of the lesson! You will learn how to whisk your own bowl of premium Matcha using a traditional bamboo whisk. The gentle bitterness of the green tea is the perfect companion to the sweets you’ve just created.

  • Rice

    Rice

Rice is a staple food in Japan. In all most every family, there is a rice cooker. There is variety of Japanese rice brands such as Koshihikari and Hitomebore.

  • Green Tea

    Green Tea

The astringent constituent in Japanese tea is a type of polyphenol called catechin. Japan has done a great deal with the humble tea leaf. For example some benefits of the catechin in the tea leaf can lower cholesterol in some cases. Roasted over charcoal at a high temperature and grown under shade for at least 20 days are one of the examples. The most popular Japanese tea might be ryokucha. Depending on the timing of picking the leaves, the grade, the price can be noticeably different.

  • Tea Ceremony

    Tea Ceremony

The Japanese tea ceremony is a centuries-old tradition closely tied to Zen Buddhist principles, and a popular way to experience Japanese culture. There are several variations on this ritual. At its base, powdered green tea (matcha) is prepared and served in accordance with strict rules. Oftentimes, wagashi (Japanese sweets) is served alongside the bitter green tea.

Hello! My name is Maya. I was born in Canada and raised in Osaka, Japan. I also had the chance to work at Disney World in Florida.

My grandmother owned a shabu-shabu restaurant, so I grew up surrounded by good food. That’s where my love for cooking and eating delicious meals comes from. I love traveling, trying authentic local food, and sharing those experiences with others. I’d love to bring a taste of Japanese home cooking to you.

I believe cooking and eating together with locals is one of the best ways to experience a culture. I have experience as an Airbnb host, and now I’m excited to welcome travelers to my home for a fun and friendly Japanese cooking class. Sometimes my mother or my sister also helps with the class, so you may get to cook with more of my family!

My place is easy to access, close to the Tanimachi Line, Sakaisuji Line, and the JR Tozai Line.

I’m looking forward to meeting you!

It was a great cooking class. Maya and her mum were attentive and answered all my questions. They are the only class that teaches Japanese dessert and advised me where to sought the ingredients that I can take back to my home country. They even recommended me places to visit whilst my stay in Japan. Overall highly highly recommend this class.

Great experience making a wide range of wagashi! Arisa and Maya were incredibly friendly and patient teaching me how to make 3 separate sweets and answered all the questions that I had. I enjoyed the recipe printouts that they provided to take home also. Would highly recommend the experience!

My friends and I just stumbled upon this cooking class and we are so happy we did - it was truly one of the loveliest afternoons we have ever spent! As a special treat their mother was able to join us for the class as well and it was a really special experience. We were so surprised to learn that we were their first ever students because they were incredible teachers and seemed so professional. They met us at the station and walked us over to their home, and we felt so welcome - they provided aprons and slippers and served us some tea as they explained how the class would proceed. We prepared three dishes under their guidance - Dorayaki, Matcha Dorayaki, and Ichigo Daifuku. It was really fun and they were very encouraging and supportive, especially when we made silly mistakes with preparing the food! After we made the food, they taught us how to make matcha and how to drink it in a tea ceremony which was definitely the highlight of the afternoon. We enjoyed our tea and snacks with them and had lots of laughs together, we cannot stress enough how much we loved this class! They very kindly recommended some things for us to do after the class as well. You definitely should attend this class while you’re in Osaka, you will not regret it :)
