  • Tempura

    Tempura

Tempura (天ぷら) is a classical Portuguese dish brought to and popularized by Japan, consisting of seafood or vegetables that have been battered and deep fried. Tempura is a typical home-style cooking in Japan. It is often referred to as a representative dish to Japan. Although there are various theories, it is said that Tokugawa Ieyasu, the general of the Edo period, liked tempura so much that he allegedly died from eating too much.

  • Udon

    Udon

Udon (うどん) is a type of thick wheat flour noodle. It is similar to Italian pasta, but much thicker. It has been eaten all over Japan as an easy-to-eat popular meal, and a substitute meal for rice dishes. Udon is often served hot as a noodle soup in its simplest form, as "kake udon", in a mildly flavoured broth called kakejiru, which is made of dashi, soy sauce, and mirin. The flavor of broth and topping vary from region to region.

Cooking Class Information

In this class, actually make Udon from flour and salted water. It's taste very chewy and delicious. Also, knead dough is very fun!

Tempra is one of the most traditional foods in Japan. This recipe for this cooking is really simple but it's delicious. Leave the shrimp's tail and re-shell them. Cut the shrimps on the bally a few times to make them straight. Cut the seasonal vegitables. Dip the shrimps and the vegitables in the batter and put them in the oil and fry them.

Dashimakitamago is one of the most popular Japanese cuisines which likes whole generations. To make it fluffy and tasty is difficult, however I give you some tips, so you make it easily!

Fumiko is a kind lady who shared so much with me on cooking Japanese cuisine. Great experience making the udon from scratch. I like that she prepared two portions of the ingredients whereby she will demonstrate it first before I try it on my own. Truly enjoyed!

It was a wonderful experience learning to cook Japanese food from Fumiko San. She speaks English well and her instructions are clear. She was patience. All ingredients were divided into two portion. She first showed me how to cook her portion before allowing me to repeat what she had done on my portion. In addition, I have requested her to show me how to cook Japanese style eggplant and she was delighted to do that! Overall, it is excellent. If I am visiting Tokyo again, I would definitely try another lesson offered by Fumiko San.

We had a great time cooking with Fumiko! She was friendly and gave clear instructions in English with lots of feedback as we went along, so we definitely look forward to bringing her recipes back home. We also ended up with a full meal and plenty to eat at the end, which was great! Would absolutely recommend her classes to anyone visiting Tokyo.

Just enjoyed so much our Japanese cooking class with Fumiko. From the first introductions when we were picked up from the station we were spoilt with a generosity of spirit and respect. We are now experts at udon noodles, tempura and japanese omlet. And we shared a traditional meal in a Japanese home. Fumiko is also a competent English speaker. Overall a great experience and one of the highlights of our Japanese holiday.
