    Tea Ceremony

The Japanese tea ceremony is a centuries-old tradition closely tied to Zen Buddhist principles, and a popular way to experience Japanese culture. There are several variations on this ritual. At its base, powdered green tea (matcha) is prepared and served in accordance with strict rules. Oftentimes, wagashi (Japanese sweets) is served alongside the bitter green tea.

Cooking Class Information

The flow of the tea ceremony experience is as follows

1. Greetings: Greetings are very important in the world of tea ceremony. Greet the teacher before entering the tea room.

2, Seated: Once you enter the tea room, you should sit on the tatami mats on the floor. If you are uncomfortable sitting on the floor, you may break it up and sit down.

3, DESSEN: Once in the tea room, the tea ceremony instructor will prepare the tea bowl, ladle, and other utensils for the tea ceremony and purify them. Then, the tea ceremony instructor prepares matcha (powdered green tea).

4. Drinking matcha: After the instructor has prepared the tea, when it is your turn, you receive the tea from the instructor and enjoy the matcha with Japanese sweets.

5, Making Matcha: You will make your own Matcha tea. The instructor will teach you how to make matcha, so please enjoy making matcha without worry.

This is the basic flow of the tea ceremony experience. Although there are detailed manners in tea ceremony, the teacher will often teach you in detail so that even first-timers can enjoy the experience.
