・Matcha
A traditional Japanese powdered green tea with a rich flavor and vibrant green color.
・Udon
A classic Japanese wheat noodle known for its thick, chewy texture.
・Sukiyaki
A popular Japanese hot pot dish made with thinly sliced beef, vegetables, tofu, and a sweet-savory soy-based sauce.
First, you will be welcomed with a traditional matcha tea experience and learn a little about Japanese tea culture.
Next, you will make fresh udon noodles from scratch, starting with kneading the dough and shaping the noodles by hand.
After that, you will prepare authentic Sukiyaki by cutting the ingredients, making the traditional sweet-savory sauce, and cooking the hot pot together. Finally, you will enjoy the handmade udon noodles in the remaining Sukiyaki broth, just as many Japanese people do at the end of a hot pot meal.
Let's meet at Shinjuku Station.
First, I'll introduce today's cooking class, explain what we'll be making, and walk you through the schedule and flow of the experience. Then, we'll enjoy a traditional Matcha experience, where you'll learn how to prepare and whisk your own bowl of matcha while discovering the spirit of Japanese hospitality.
You will start by mixing flour, water, and salt to make udon dough from scratch. After kneading and resting the dough, you'll roll it out, fold it, and cut it into beautiful noodles using traditional techniques.
First, you will prepare the ingredients by slicing fresh vegetables, tofu, and other items used in sukiyaki. Next, you will make traditional warishita from scratch using soy sauce, mirin, sugar, and sake. After arranging the ingredients around the hot pot, you will learn how to cook sukiyaki using authentic Japanese techniques.
Once the sukiyaki is ready, we'll gather around the table, say "Itadakimasu," and enjoy the meal together. To finish the meal like many Japanese do, we'll add udon noodles to the remaining broth and enjoy them as the final course.
